Lava Lamp

Sometimes I can’t breathe
Hammering these clumsy fists on the too thick ice
Praying it will open up
And swallow me back to the warm, solid earth

Skin bursts and breaks and blood flows
Escaping the bounds of my fragile wrapping

Warm blood rises
Cool, it descends
And I immerse myself in a bubble
Heading for the surface
